Aapke Paas NIRODH Hai Kya? This was the question Shekhar Suman wanted to ask the shopkeeper in the movie Anubhav in 1971. Finally after long hesitation, he asked for Nirodh with innocent blushing on his face.
Then shopkeeper’s replied “MahaRaaj Aap Naam Lene Mein Itna Sharma Rahe Hain.. To Isske Istemaal Kaise Karengey?”. [lol]
Nirodh - Condom owned by Government of India
May be the shopkeeper was right.
Birth control policies in India have failed to promote a sustainable solution to the problem of overpopulation.
India is not like European countries where population is decreasing and increase in the population would be a boon for them.
Population explosion is a curse for India. Why? Simply because of lack resources available in India.
This will lead to increase in poverty, national food insecurity and other population related problems.
After 25 years, when we’ll beat China in population curve, we’ll still produce food on the same land which is available to us today.
You might argue that agriculture production is also increasing in India and with the help of genetic engineering we should be able to achieve our food security.
In this case, we should remember that India’s genetic engineering program is very poorly developed and most of the American companies have control on over India’s seed market. If we rely more on imported technology, specially in food, then this will create new form of colonialism by international companies.
We are a developing country and have many social and economic challenges. Our health care system is improving which is also helping in increasing the population.
Population explosion in India will have greater impact than expected on environment because people will start sharing resources but they won’t take responsibilities. [we love to blame on each other]
Although India is one of the largest producers of the college graduates in the world, population explosion will create more unemployment and illiteracy.
So how this population growth can be controlled? Why the birth control programs did not work effectively?
We may think this is because of corruption in India or increasing better health care facilities, but not.
Actually problem and solution relies in the social structures of Indian families and education of women in India.
Rural Indian women are not heavily involved in decision making in their families. They need to be educated more about birth control measures and should have voice to say if they don’t want to be pregnant.
Having equal rights in decision making about the number of children to be produced will have most impact on the Indian society.
Together with Govt’s fertility control policies and letting Indian Women Speak Their Minds will help India solve population problem.
I hope NIRODH might work then.. If it is not made up of Khadi by Congress Government.
True Yogis should renounce worldly pleasures, give food and shelters to poors, but not like Baba Ramdev, who flies in private jets to start anti-corruption campaign.
Anna Hajare might have true intentions to cure corruption in India but having ally like Baba only hurts his campaign.

I think you are absolutely right… Indian women should have more authority in decision making in India..
your quotation is excellent.your idea is very nice.keep it up
Its not only about women not having decision powers but even the Govt. doesn’t work correctly on this issue. FPI, Family Planning of India is the organisation, where do you get to see it ??? Also the West looks Asia n specially India as their Market to sell their Goods as their Population is shrinking so they Bribe our Politicians to keep their mouth shut on population. 99 % of our Politicians are Corrupt n not of good nature so naturally Population will increase.
Great article. I think Govt. reduced spending money for family planning in last few years. The problem is birth-rate of illiterate and poor people is very high compared to educated and wealthy people. These people depend more on govt. subsidies. They they don’t have money to educate their children. They force their children to do child labour. I don’t know why people who talk about right of parents to decide birth-rate are not worried about right of children.
